conditions - Diarrhea

Diarrhea is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as having three or more loose or liquid stools per day, or as having more stools than is normal for that person. It is usually divided into two types based on the duration: acute and chronic. Mostly, the acute diarrhea was caused by a variety of infectious factors, while the factors that caused chronic diarrhea were much more complicated.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, has been used to treat chronic diarrhea for thousands of years. Base on the theory of Chinese Medicine, chronic diarrhea is mostly caused by "spleen deficiency". In Chinese Medicine theory, the spleen has effects of transporting the nutrients and water of the food.

When water loses its distribution and converges into wet, eventually leading to the occurrence of diarrhea. Spleen deficiency includes main symptoms of physical fatigue, swelling, and pale tongue coating.

In Chinese Medicine theory, strengthening the spleen is one of the most commonly used methods of treating chronic diarrhea. This can be achieved with Acupuncture or Chinese Herbal Medicine or a combination of both, along with Chinese Nutrition, or Diet Therapy.
