Headache is one of the most common health-related conditions in Australia, with around 15 per cent of us taking pain-relieving medication for a headache at any given time. It is likely that nearly all of us will experience headache during our lifetime. Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine has long been used to treat headaches & migraine. It is not only effective for migraine, but also works very well with tension headaches, cluster headaches, and disease-related headaches that might be due to sinus problems, high blood pressure or sleeping disorders.

Traditional Chinese Medicine always aims to treat holistically and approaches migraine and headache in the same fashion, bringing balance to the body and emotions, and allowing the body to harness it's own natural healing abilities.

In Chinese medicine, headaches are caused either by external factors or internal damage. Headache caused b wind-cold, wind-heat, and wind-damp are external pathogenic factors, while Headaches caused by internal damage is cased by deficiency of both Qi (vital life force energy) and blood, deficiency of the liver and kidney systems, or blood stasis, for example. Migraines are mostly caused by "wind-fire" of the liver system, in Chinese Medicine terminology.

Chinese Medicine will adopt different treatments strategies based on then different root causes and clinical manifestations. The methods of treatment will include Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Chinese Nutrition therapy and therapeutic Massage, tailored specifically to the individual patient’s condition, diagnosis and underlying cause of headache or migraine.

Treatment initially looks are alleviating the pain, while ongoing treatments look to address the root cause so as to prevent recurrence in the future.
